Wax Wings Brewing’s Special IPA to Aid SPCA of Southwest Michigan
Animal lovers and beer fans came together this past Sunday for a good cause. Kalamazoo-based Wax Wings Brewing Company hosted an adoption event in collaboration with SPCA of Southwest Michigan as part of their sixth-anniversary celebration. They created a custom beer called “For the Dogs,” a hazy IPA made with New Zealand hops. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to SPCA of Southwest Michigan.
Berrien Community Foundation Awards $81,000 Grant to Silver Beach Playground Project
Silver Beach County Park has been raising funds to replace the 30-year-old playground with something more modern and accessible, and the fundraising goal is $1.25 million. With the For Good Grant announced recently, the Berrien County Parks Department is now at 86% of its fundraising goal for the playground.
South Haven Launches Pure Michigan Trail Town Challenge, Offers Prizes
The South Haven/Van Buren County Convention & Visitors Bureau has launched its inaugural Pure Michigan Trail Town Challenge. Lunchtime Live! Returns to Downtown Kalamazoo

Social Work Students can get $30K to Pursue Master’s Degree
Michigan students seeking a master’s degree in social work at one of 12 in-state universities may be eligible for a $30,000 stipend from the Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) to increase the state’s behavioral health workforce. Andrews University in Berrien County is one of the eligible universities where students who enter a full-time advanced standing master’s degree program may receive a one-time stipend.
GVSU Expands Programming in Battle Creek with $10M Grant from W.K. Kellogg Foundation
Grand Valley State University announced plans to renovate the Kendall Center to accommodate new university programs as part of a three-year, $10.3 million grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. The grant will serve Battle Creek area residents by offering GVSU degrees and certificates, growing the food innovation economy, and investing in an aging workforce and new industry opportunities.
$32.7M Project will Bring 82 Apartments, New Restaurant to Downtown Kalamazoo
A vacant commercial building at 203 N. Rose Street in downtown Kalamazoo will soon be home to 82 new residential units with a ground-floor restaurant. The $32.7 million project, called Arcadia Lofts, will be funded in part by a $4.875 million loan from the state’s Michigan Strategic Fund.
