With 14 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline, 300 inland lakes, and two local rivers, Van Buren County has plenty of opportunities for fishing, kayaking, water sports, swimming and amazing sunrises and sunsets. Van Buren County and the surrounding region is known for it’s craft breweries and wineries. The Michigan climate is perfect for growing grapes and you can smell the vineyards as you drive through the summer countryside. The Kal-Haven Trail is an outdoor trail that connects Kalamazoo to South Haven, spanning 33 miles. It is ideal for walking, biking, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, and some areas of the trail allow horseback riding.

Market Van Buren operates a Business Expansion and Retention program to offer practical solutions to employers wanting to preserve and grow a strong business and talented employees. This program includes supporting businesses in writing grants to secure funding for automation technology, free trainings, tools, and assessments available through organizational partners, and connecting local suppliers and producers to increase the exchange of materials and goods within the community. Our strong involvement and partnership with local employers led to 5 business retentions and expansions, 531 jobs created and retained which equaled a total of $45.1 million in overall economic impact during the 2022-2023 fiscal year.

South Haven Proposes Expanded Social District

The South Haven City Council voted this week to approve plans that will implement several changes regarding the city's social district. These include extending the daily hours, extending the season, and updating signage to make the boundaries more clear.
